Exquisite Walks
“Exquisite Walks” is a collaborative project with Andy Abbott exploring our shared interest in reimagined landscapes and sound art.
As part of the ART LAB exhibition at Crossley Gallery, Dean Clough Halifax, curated by Alice Bradshaw,17 pairs of artists were coupled to make new work and share in a collaborative process.
Mine and Andy’s collaboration took the form a process involving a series of local walks in our respective neighbourhoods in York and Halifax. Each walk was a response to the line travelled by the other’s walking route, transposed onto our own geographic area. We paused at points designated by the drawn line, to record the sonic environment, and these sounds became the basis for an audio jam. The lines traveled on our walks have been layered to form a map of traces, whilst the accompanying soundtrack takes the listener on a fragmented journey in multiple directions.
Our work in the show consists of a limited edition of risograph print, (available to buy for £15) and an accompanying soundtrack. We performed a live this piece live at the opening reception this Saturday between 12-2pm, Crossley Gallery, Dean Clough, Halifax.
